        When is the Trek?

        Where is the location for the trek?

Trek will be held at the Church ranch near Elberta, UT (SW side of Utah Lake)


        Is there a cost?


       Who can go on the trek?

All Youth ages 12-18. This includes youth who will graduate from high school this spring.

       Will there be requirements to go on the trek?

Everyone who goes on trek will be required to turn in proper registration forms.    
We highly recommend that you prepare yourselves physically and spiritually. The Trail of Faith Award will not only help you prepare for trek but it will help towards your Personal Progress and Duty to God Awards and help establish a spiritual strength that will help you the rest of your life.

     When do I need to return my Permission/Medical
    form?

Youth must return the permission/medical form before ______.

       Can I go on the trek if I am a high school senior?

If you graduate from high school this spring and have been involved in ward and Stake activities, you are invited.

       What will we eat?

Three tasty, balanced meals a day, plus snacks and lots of water!

        What will we wear?

All Trekkers will wear “pioneer clothes” YW & women – dresses or skirts to mid calf, long-sleeve, button-front shirts, with modest shorts or bloomers. 
YM & men long pants, (not levis), with long-sleeve, button-front shirts. Light weight, loose cotton fabric.   Hats, sunglasses, work gloves recommended.  **All will need sturdy shoes or tennis shoes that are broken-in**

       When do I need to have my pioneer clothes?

Plan on having all of your pioneer clothing one month prior to Trek.  DI is a great resource but with many other Stakes in the valley participating in Trek we recommend that you start to collect (or sew) your clothing as early as possible.

   Can I wear contacts on the Trek

The use of contacts is discouraged. It maybe windy and the handcarts might make a lot of dust.  Plan now to have a pair of glasses you can use. If you must wear contacts have a sturdy pair of sunglasses on hand to protect your eyes.
  

    What should I be doing now to prepare for the trek?

To physically prepare yourself for the trek, here are some general guidelines:

Eat balanced meals starting now!

      Walk 4-5 times per week
      For 2-3 times per week, walk 2-3 miles, and 2 times a week, walk 4-5 miles
      About 4 times before the actual Trek, walk longer periods of time up hill. 

Remember, the trek experience is an authentic one.  You will not have canned pop on  
the trek.  If canned or bottled pop is a habit for you, we encourage you to "dry up" for
at least at least a week before the trek. Start preparing for the trek NOW by taking daily walks.  Start by walking 15 minutes 3 times a week.  After a month, increase your walks to 30 minutes 3 times per week. 


To spiritually prepare yourself for the trek, here are some general guidelines:  Pray, read scriptures, work on Personal Progress, Duty to God, go to the temple, learn your own family history.

      How long will we be walking and pulling
    handcarts?  

We will walk and pull handcarts from 7-8 miles each day. It will be important to be in shape and to have sturdy tennis shoes/boots/ Start now to exercise and to break in your shoes.  You will be glad you did!

    Where will we camp? 

Trek will be held at the Church ranch near Elberta, UT (SW side of Utah Lake) we will be in developed campgrounds, with tents, porta-potties, and fresh water.

     What are “Handcart Families”? 

YM and YW from around the stake will be assigned to a “family” of about 10, with a married couple called to be Ma and Pa.  Each “family” will have a handcart and work together through the day and have devotionals.

      Will there be YW Camp in 2012?

YW who are in 7th & 8th grades are invited to attend Oakcrest June 4-8, 2012. 
    

     Can I come to Trek late or leave early?

No, Trek is being held on a very large working ranch, and we will be several miles from a
locked gate.  If you attend trek you must arrive and leave with the main group.

    Can I bring my iPod or cell phone?

No, You may not bring cell phones, MP3 players or gaming devices.
